Busted Display Needs Replacing

Post by ColoradoPasoFan »

Hello all,

The clips on my '87 750 Paso display became brittle and broke so now the clear cover comes off. I called the nice people at DucatiOmaha about getting a replacement, sadly those aren't available anymore; I have also checked with local dealers and junk yards but nobody has one either. :banghead:

I searched through the forums here and found a post in early 2007 from ducapiero about connecting the fuel indicator to an Acewell display. Unfortunately the photobucket pics are no longer good so I don't know what it looks like. :,(

I'm in the market for a new display, any suggestions on which would be good alternatives?
:dunno:

It will be very hard to find a new dashboard screen.
You'll find easier the whole dashboard which sometimes appears on ebay.

If the cover is basically in one piece just the clips are gone you can carefully reinstall it with some clear silicone sealer. Place a small bead low on the bezel then lower the cover onto it so that the excess rolls out on the bezel and not up into the cover. Let it dry for 24 hours and then trim off any excess Scratchs can be repaired with flame polishing...BE advised flame polishing takes lots of practice on some thing other than your hard to replace cover. Mapp gas works best but if you have never done this sort of thing I would start with propane and when you have practiced practiced practiced move up to mapp gas and practice some more Once you have learned to apply the heat evenly without inducing bubbles in the plastic move onto the cover. You can remove even scratches big enough to catch a nail with this method and it will look better than new when done properly.. The Vietnamese Gentleman (Phong) that taught me could join two pieces of acrylic together using nothing but mapp gas and make it look completely seamless. I have nowhere near the eye for flame polishing Phong had,but I can make most scratches disappear in about 5 minutes. Some day I might even try it on a pair of eyeglasses

I made one from clear plastic ( I wanna say perspex but Im not sure what it was ) and ultraclear araldite , by shaping the main lense and then, by heating and bending, form a " rim " which I then glued on. A previous owner spilt brake fluid on the lense

OK, so I used Guerilla Glue to fix the display, got it up and running for about 2 weeks before the key switch/ignition stopped working....GRRRR!!!! :banghead:

I placed an order with Ducati Omaha to buy a new one but it's been discontinued...again GRRRR!!!!

Ebay and Craigs List have both turned up nothing so I e-mailed ducpower.com to see what they may have, wish me luck!

Yeah, that sure was a good laugh, such unbridled optimism. One of my nurses actually thought that she had a chance of talking me into going to a 6 day seminar on type 2 diabetes ( poor stupid girl ) and I thought she would have to be the worlds most optimistic person............... but no
