Hey Plexitone, I've got a pair of the Conti race cans fitted to my 750,they sound great. No problems fitting them up,just the brake pedal adjustment, the same as Fraser encountered. They appear to be identical to the other style through the baffles, just a different exterior.Italspares has these also as well as in Ian Gowanlochs own words, "a small truckload of paso parts".

with open cans you will need to rejet as you risk to run lean and heat up the engine more.

One comment about the Contis. I had the other type as I like them better. Typical Conti the looks is sweet and the sound is too. There`s one downside though. It seems the materials Conti used were not the best as both sets I had started to show rust spots under the chrome specially at the weldings and the hanger over time. (and I did treat them well).

G,

That's a pity that they rusted. I had hoped that those sort of problems might have been gone. Back in the '70s the Contis rusted as you watched them, especially on the seam underneath, happened to both sides. Back then I got my Dad to make some stainless steel replica ones, that fixed it! As he passed away a few years ago, that is no longer an option.

Cheers,

Fraser.

Hi Rhino,

Here's part of an email I received a wee while ago; email address hasn't changed, so you should be OK. Maybe send them another for a prompt.

Hi Paso-Fans

I just fixed the Contis on my Paso 906. I bought them from the address mentioned in this thread and they arrived via ship after 3 or 4 month in a perfect state. Unused, no wear at all. I really do like the looks on the bike.

However, they are extremely loud. Really. I cannot just use them here without doing something to reduce the noise. Police will kill me right away.

Hence I cannot confirm the statement by "Sharpey"
Sharpey wrote:
Yet they are not much louder on the ear than the standard Silentiums, just a better tone

Steve
Any idea how I can easily reduce the approx. 120 db. I heard that there had been some simple db-eaters around for this Contis quite a while ago. Do not get me wrong, I do not want to destroy the sound, it is nice, but much to loud for street use (at least in my region).

Thank you for your help.

Hardo, didnt You know, WHAT You are buying??? Conti's are best mufflers for Ducati Paso if thinking that "sound" of that marvelous engine... If You want silent exhaust, then You have to buy something ELSE, not Conti's  They are MEANT to be LOUDLY    If You are not satisfied to that LOUDLY sound, let them go away (that someone can enjoy!) and get some Silentiums to get silent Ducati sound :)

Hardo,

Sounds like something is wrong, as there is no way that the Conti's are making 120 dBA. The Conti's on my 750 replaced some slip on cans and were no louder, however they did make a different tone.
We have a limit here of 108 dBA and the 750 easily passes. (Had another bike fail the 108 dBA limit, but that was not suprising, really loud. So there is a substantial difference).
Is there leakage where the exhaust clamps onto the header pipe, as this will increase the noise?

Cheers,

Fraser.

Fraser's right Hardo. I use to have a set of Conti reps by Gazelle on my 750 and - while it certainly did have people looking up checking for WWII ground attack aircraft - it always got through our Ministry of Transport test. Only just but it got through.

I can't believe that your Contis are managing 120db - somethings wrong. If there is a leak somewhere in the system you'd best get it sorted out quickly before some serious damage is done to the motor - or to you by your rather less than tolerant police!

in Germany it`s
riding noise (measured on a 20m track out of 7,5m distance)
84 dB (A) max. for bikes up to 30.9.1983
83 bis 86 dB (A) for bikes up to 30.9.1990
82 dB (A)max. for bikes up to 30.9.1995
80 dB (A) for bikes after 1.10.1995

standing noise is higher (as measured in 0,5m distance from the exhaust in a 45° angle from it)
As far as I know, if 101db are exceeded it`s illegal.

Thanks for your input.

120 db is certainly an overstatement, I just wanted to say that it feels like 120 db, I did not measure it on an objective basis (but I may do it if I am able to borrow a measuring tool). It is not that I do not like the sound, it is just much louder than the original cans (black, closed form) and more than I had expected. In order to get not too much trouble with the regulators here I will check what I can do.

G. (Paso 750) gave me some valuable hints (thank you - it is great to have your knowledge in this forum) and I bought this one here from ebay for a low price

http://cgi.ebay.de/SCHALLDAMPFER-EINSAT ... 2418727630

I hope I can reduce the sound a little bit (of course also not too much). Given the size, it should - with some smaler adjustments - fit. I keep you updated.

Hardo

P.S. I will double check if there is some leaky at the front end of the mufflers but I really do not think so - thanks for the help here
