Starter not engaging.
Starter not engaging.
I have a 91 907ie and the starter seems to only engage for about 2 revolutions before it cuts out the starter keeps spinning but the engine doesn't what could the problem be?
Also how do you test to see if ignition coils are bad (ohm resistance etc)?

Re: Starter not engaging.
G. is mentioning one possible cause.
the other can be that the starter turns to slow due to loss of voltage.
this can be caused by worn brushes, bad contacts.
also about this can be found on the forum.

Re: Starter not engaging.
The 907 has most of the "fix's for electrical issues as is.
But the only fix for the passage of time is maintenance
Clean those grounds and connectors. You will have far fewer issues

never understood what probelms all guys have with their clocks. Mine is just fine and there`s never been a battery problem even if the bike wasn`t started for a few weeks.

I thought they all crapped out long before the battery had a chance to go flat

Re: Starter not engaging.
I think you guys with clock problems are missing something deeper.
My bike gets ridden only every few weeks at the moment with periods of up to a month without a start. The battery has never discharged to a degree where the bike wouldnt start. Perhaps its time to look further into this mystery that affects bikes in the Northern Hemisphere.

Re: Starter not engaging.
It has been my experience with my 907 if the idle is too low,low enough to get a flickering charge light at idle the charge on the battery lets the clock draw it down to no start in about two weeks.
