Bought a 1988 paso 750. wow

never touched a bike engine in my life. car engine yes. but totally different. even so. i dont have tue cash to send this to an expierenced person. oh yea noone wants to work on it neither. remember i bought this as a project bike. and to learn... ive looked over the workshop manual. if i can atleast get either side cover off and look at inside. other wise its motor pullin. im not in no hurry to get it running. so live and learn is ok. google dont exactly tell ya what ya want to hear. beint new, its good to ask real people , best place to learn. since u all are expieeenced. yes im new, yes i am gonna do this. so far u all have been very helpfull. im trying to learn as much as i can about the bike and engine before i jump into it. takin it slow. like i said, i can start with removing both covers ane atleast looking. that will eliminate that part. thanks

Ha ! you sound like me . All I can say is that I wish I was there , I get the feeling that there aint a whole big lot wrong with this bike, I mean , the problem might be a bitch to get at but it wont take much to put it right once your there.

Is it the angle of the picture, or does the output shaft look awefully short to anyone else? It looks like it's broken with the end snapped off.

Terry, it does look short, but it`s probably the angle of the photo and the bolt in the end of the drive shaft that doesn`t belong there. Looks like one from the lower frame rails or engine mounts.

bike came like that chain and sproket were off. he finally brung the chain etc today, will pick it up after work. hope its all there so i can put the chain on and turn the wheel and try and listen. a guy drove by yesterday made me an offer, knowing whats wrong too offered $ 800 said no, but will keep him in mind.

ok so got the chain brand new , and the newer front sproket, but theres no pinion locking plate to keep the sproket on. will have to call around for that. are those pretty universal?

no, they are Ducati specific and only used on some models. You can get them from Ducati, no problem.

ok yep, found a dealer here in michigan, but all parts will be special order from italy. even the sproket locking nut.10 bucks plus shipping so not too bad... as for the chain, that needs to be shortened.

I found it interesting, but my Paso uses larger diameter bolts for the sprocket retaining plate than my other Ducatis. You may get one for a newer bike and have to drill the two holes a little larger.

In my experiance " special order fron itally " means wait 3 months and then find it yourself on the 'net you should probly get a couple if they dont cost to much .

I really don`t understand how a Duc dealer cannot have something so basic in stock.
You should check for another dealer, preferably someone who´s in the business 15 years+ and who has a good reputation amongst other owners of older Ducs.

According to what I found the pinion stop plate 067016105 was replaced by 82610111A which is used also on
Ducati 888`93->
Ducati 900 SS -`92
Ducati 900 SS/SL`94-`97
600-900 M/SS->`2000
Hypermotard 796 2010/2011
MH900E 2001/2002

Just google "Ducati" and the part number and you`ll find something.

ahhh i see, but say i need a valve or some gear or something, is there a parts list with all the part numbers somewhere? ive googled 88 ducati paso 750 head gasket and comes up with everything except for that bike. lol found 1 for 6.95 but dont tuink thats right..

dunno about the 750's but the 906 doesn't have a head gasket, maybe why you cant find it .
