Yeah , It was a new thing to me too. There is a raised area round the top of the bore and a similar recess in the head and if there are signs of leakage ( carbon deposits ) an light lapping in with fine grinding paste is the go . I have read that sometimes these heads can warp enough to cause head/cyl sealing issues next to the exhaust valve , although I have never actually seen or heard of 1st hand, probly have to cook it !
I wish I was young again............Id be heaps smarter than last time

now the chain is brand new and too long. i got a chain breaker , but was told to bring the back wheel forward a notch or two first then make the chain to length,, then bring the back wheel back again. how do u make sure the wheel is straight, so the chain isnt cocked ? how tight do u want the chain.

With the the pinch bolts loose on both sides and the large hex head axle nut loose on the chain side, rotate the axle eccentric using a hex wrench on the brake side of the wheel. The eccentrics will rotate equally as you turn the axle. You may need to relieve some weight by lifting the rear wheel slightly while you turn.

i see and u must not need to turn very much for it to move the wheel then. then make the chain to fit with a little play, then turn eccentrics to move wheel back to take up the chain slack ?

Exactly. You'll want to get the axle as close to 'bottom' position as possible to give yourself some adjustment room once the chain has stretched. Or the 'Top' position if you're running a tall tire. (140/70 or 180/60)

Sorry, not 'bottom of range' but actual position:
This shows the eccentric at just 'behind' the bottom position.

You see that round thing where the axle is ? The axle is not positioned in its center but off center. That part is called excenter.
If you turn it so the axle is moved to the rear you tighten the chain, turning it to the front will slacken it.
As scimmione mentioned the normal position is with the axle towards the bottom. Then adjust it back or forth as required.
If you rotate the excenters by 180° with the axle in the upper position the rear of the bike will sit a little lower.

Adjusting the chain is all explained in the user and workshop manual.

G.

PS:
tyres are factory. about a year left on them.
What production date are they ?

Have you loosened the pinch bolts yet?
Take care in doing so. Galvanic corrosion oftens sets up
inside the swing arm on the lower bolts end.
Forcing it without some preparation may lead
to stripped threads in the swingarm.
