The states is just different when it comes to way laws are enforced. It's a big country with 50 states and federal laws are rarely enforced by the local, county or state police. They really have NO idea what the bike had on as original equipment so there is no way to enforce what might be required.

We don't need turn signals here in the USA either by law, you can use hand signals. So the fact that you have red vs. yellow isn't an issue.

The place that is hard to comprehend it Italy. You can go 100 miles an hour thru town, pass everywhere at any time but you can't change the mufflers and wheel sizes. Now that doesn't make sense to me.

Personally I think hand signals on a bike are a bit rediclious as when turning or stopping it is a lot safer to actually have both hands on the controls.

Our state governement (New South Wales) recently introduced legislation that said all motorcycles must display a sticker stating the noise level of the bike & there is a $200 dollar fine if the sticker is not displayed. they are not so much interested in the noise level as they are in the sticker being on the swingarm. This caused a lot of problems as interstat riders were being hit with the fine while riding in our part of the world. this has created a lot of anger as tourists ore being fined for something that is not applicable to them. The governemt asures us that this is not blatant revenus raising but the figures apparently show that over half of the bikes fines carry interstate plates

I think this law is about to be dropped as it is also being challenged as a sticker plays no part in restricting the noise levels but the government insist it is in place for the good of all :toofar:


Back to your side of the world what is the go with the "Californa Spec" Bikes. Is that just emission control or does it go further?

It really is mostly emissions they care about in this place. Just about impossible to register a dirtbike regardless of what equipment it has. You see people ride down the road on Harleys with handlebars higher than their helmet and tiny little led tailights that never get pulled over. Most people pull all the emissions crap off their bikes the day they get them. About 25lbs worth of hoses and cannisters. How much pollution do you think motorcycles make compared to a factory?

Turn signals? nobody uses them here anyway. I doubt the average driver here knows how to make a hand signal. Really just too much traffic for the cops to handle. The land of really bad drivers...

Isn't that just typical of Government (not just yours but all of them). Refuse to sign something as planet saving as the "Kyoto Protocol" but try to hound the poor old minority motorcyclist out of existance because of a few fumes or decibels! :rant:

Fact of the matter here is that alot of folks just HATE motorcycles. Lane splitting is legal in California, but not in some states. Is it legal in OZ?

By the way, been there many times, only compaint is that it keeps getting more and more infected with U.S. fads, its hard to feel like your in a foreign country. Love your country.

Lane splitting is NOT legal over here, that does not stop it happening, don't do it myself unless in stalled traffic. the big problem here is not that peple HATE bikers but unless people ride themselves they just do not look for bikes. Mind you I have driven 50 seat Coaches & had people pull out in front of me saying they did not see me, what chance does the poor rider have. I guess that is why we pay redicliously high insurance, to cover the opticals of the car driver. :laugh:

I love this country as well but like you I do not like the "American-isation" of our culture. we have a great if not long Culture (not all of it to be proud of) but it is being left behind under the barrage of US influence through TV & that crap rap/hip-hop etc music.

If you step out of the major cities you get into the "realAustralia" & that is truely a magical place

Lane splitting?? - not illegal in the UK unless the traffic cops catch you, but we all do it on the motorways ( freeways ).
