Sorry lads,

I just don't get it.
Self retracting side stands cause many problems (so I'm told, as never had one) as you thought that it was down in position but had actually retracted and you get off the bike in time to see it fall over.
My first Ducati only had a main stand, side stands were for wimps. This set the process for the next 37 years, just use the main stand. However, my Yamaha TRX850 only has a side stand and that is really inconvenient.

Will contribute a design for Phil's invention project.

Cheers,
Fraser.

Thanks Frazer.
You will certainly be one of the points to design for. If you like, then we know we have something good.
Any and all ideas are good ideas.

Yup, that's the bit.
It was on every Honda in the 70's and 80's, but now its not. Wonder why they stopped putting them on bikes, or why they never really explained why it was there? I worked in a Honda shop in the late 70's, and nobody could explain why Honda put these on bikes. Sales guys didn't know.

Patent surely has run out by now. Would be easy enough to duplicate the function, and make it a bit more stylish.
Another video to clearly demonstrate how to scratch you fairings, and win admiration of your riding buddies.

It gets worse when you have one of each , self retract on the guzzi and manual job on the Paso, but in any event ( I guess we are all different ) a lesson learned is one not forgotten ,while I didn't actually bite the dust it was close . My sympathies to those that did go down .
Im not a great believer in this "idiot proof " world we are now seeing , I think it discourages common sence , especially in the young ( but then if you cant even pull your pants up properly you probly need all the help you can get )
Personally I can drive for miles with the blinker on and I don't hear so good so for me the rubber tip is the best soloution :)

All in the name of OHSE&Q....

Its amazing what a toe of a Bludstone aimed at the Kiber Pass does for common sense. :fart:

As to what can be attached to the side stand to get it to flick up, maybe a brake pad/shoe from a rim braked Push Bike? They come in various sizes and have the nut and bolt already attached.

Cheers.

Nick.
