Brake piston seals

O.K. I've tried searching the forum but all my searches always end up with reams of unwanted information. So I'll have to ask here I'm afraid.

I have decided I need to replace the front and rear brake piston seals on my 907ie. They have been in there for at least nine, possibly eleven years, or maybe even longer.
I can bleed the brakes well enough but can't stop the pads rubbing on the discs.
I know I can take the pistons out and clean the seals (in my experience, removing the seals usually damages them) but I may as well do a proper job while I'm at it. I may well find that I need to replace the discs as well, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Cheaper to do the seals first anyway.

Can anybody tell me where I can source piston seals in the UK, please?
I tried ringing my nearest Ducati dealer but, as usual, it goes straight to voice mail.
I'll be o.k. with buying outside of the UK, but speed is of the essence now; I need to get this bike finished sooner, rather than later, as I'm under a lot of time pressure with other outstanding tasks waiting in the wings (Picture folded arms and foot tapping impatiently, if you get my drift ).

As long as the caliper seals don`t leak there`s no real reason to replace them. I also never managed to ruin a seal when removing and later reusing it.
One of the problems may be the pistons or any kind of residue in the calipers.
It often starts when the brake pads are almost worn. The pistons are out quite a bit and a baked in crust of brake dust builds up on the outer edge. If then the pads are replaced w/o cleaning the pistons and these are just pushed back in the dirt will slow down the movement of the pistons and also ruin the seals in the longrun.

Brembo doesn`t sell a seal repair kit for the P4 30/34C. You will only find one for the P4 30/34 billet (CNC), the racing caliper but that won`t fit.

But in the US there is bevelheaven and http://www.mgcycle.com/product_info.php ... ts_id=2929 selling repair parts.

If there`s a shop where you can get KTM parts it`s #58713021000 for the seal kit. (It`s from a '00-'02 KTM Duke)
The piston kit is KTM #58713019000 and #58713020000 is the bleeder screw.

try to find the seals for the rear P32F (and P32G) ...
Here`s one selling seals, but who needs 5 ? The price is not that bad though and it`s in the UK as well.

A complete caliper repair kit including seals and pistons is £38.64 probably +VAT.

Im with G on this . Pull out the pistons and seals an give everything a good clean , especially the grooves the seals sit in ( I use meths and a small brass /bronze wire brush ) and coat piston and dust seals with rubber lube designed for brake components ( cheap as chips from a brake specialist ) and reassemble. You have nothing to loose and will probly save time and money

Now that I know the seals/pistons are available, I feel more confident about dismantling and cleaning the pistons. I've done it before on other bikes but always ended up having to replace the seals. Perhaps I'm just too ham-fisted .

I'll report back on any progress as and when I have the time to work on the bike.

How did the brake seal/piston kit go? Thought I might get a couple of sets in for B1. I checked the price in Oz at a KTM dealer, and they were stupid $$$.

I haven't bought any seals as yet. I decided to try taking the existing seals and pistons out and clean them up first.
I've only had time to do one side; what a mess inside the caliper ! It was gunged up with stuff that looked like gravy. Yuk!
So, things are progressing at a snails pace, but I will post updates about any results as and when I achieve anything.

motomecca in the UK are always the best bet for Brembo parts as they used to be the importer

Something for those in Australia.

I have spoken to a couple of Ducati dealers around the place. They no longer stock or supply seal, piston or both kits for Brembo brakes. One even suggested the only way to repair the calipers is to replace the whole lot! The reason that Ducati have given them away is some sort of legal hoo hah. Don't know how importing them from OS will go, but I haven't found anything to say they are on the "not allowed" list.

Motomecca can supply the 30/34 kits, and can post out at a reasonable cost too.

Bevel heaven ( Higgy's fav shop ) and MG cycles do brembo kits , seals, bleed nipples and pistons

I read several posts and watched a lot of youtube videos about caliper rebuilds. The seals in the calipers must be installed in only one direction, and some people had installed them backwards, which caused the brakes to fail. Brembos response to was to stop selling rebuild kits. But apparently, they have started selling them again, so your dealer may not have checked lately and learned the story has changed.

But a good cleaning usually will fix things up directly. Dirt is the usual culprit for bad brakes.

What assembly lube are any of you using? I was searching trying to find an appropriate lube, but could only find brake fluid as an appropriate lube. I know normal grease is a bad thing and will swell the seals, and render them useless, as will most cleaning agents, except for Brake Cleaner.
