putting a switch in one side or the other of the fan switch circuit will not turn the fan on, it will just keep the fan switch from working.

Now how is that ? If you forward 12V from a manual switch directly to the fan how will it keep it from working ? Ok, in Warwicks drawing nothing would happen as the fan is missing it`s ground connection.

Hey Warwick, I've just done the same on mine.
All you have to do is hook in to the wires that come out of the bottom of the thermo switch.

Yes that is the best way to do it. You still leave the switch working and don't have to worry about blown fuses or burning out your fan when you have your switch powered and the fan switch closes. Also its is simple

Warwick's drawing shows independent voltage to both the switch and his switch from the battery, not the same thing. if he turns on his switch and the fan switch closes his drawing will give 2 12v sources to the fan

I take his drawing as a schematic drawing, which it obviously is. Where you take the 12V from which you manually switch to the fan doesn´t matter. If you run one wire from a consumer load to a battery or two doesn`t make a difference. It`s the same 12V getting there. I can`t believe we`re discussing this.

Not so long ago someone posted a pic of a Paso on fire , and there have been others in the past , and here I was wondering if there was some sort of Bemuda triangle thing goin' on here ... Paso's burstin into flames all over the place , but I see a pattern forming here and Im predicting that the next paso to burst into flames will be in Brisbane , Australia

two wires lowers the resistance, if the voltage is the same the amperage has to go up.
the only way to avoid it on Romus's drawing would be to use the same ground path and/
or the same supply path for both switch. EXACTLY the way Lane1feathers has drawn it.

granted the only time this would happen on his drawing would be when both switch activate at the same time


G if you take a toaster and add a parallel plug to the same terminals and plug them both in your toaster will blow up of you will pop the breaker, try it but not indoors please

so you`re saying that this will work and this not ?
I don`t know about your toaster but mine runs on AC and hence is a total different thing.
Try to to connect a 12V lamp to a battery and then add a second + wire w/ or w/o a switch in it, then tell us if it lights brighter, blows up and doesn`t light...

So at the moment I have the second picture setup, via a spare relay outlet. I can change it to pic one if needed. I'll keep watching the debate.

I'm slowly getting the hang of this electrical stuff. No worries about any fires around here

I utilised a 12v room thermostat kit, had to change a number of resistors to alter the 5-30c thermostat into a 55-90c device. Purchased at a Maplin store, why it even exists I don't know but I had a use for it. Coupled with a 3 way switch (Off / On / Auto) it is a handy little black box with an LED to indicate fan operation and a dial to fine tune fan temp switching. Probably posted this before but I know what my memory is like.

I have a 65c thermostatic valve on my 906 and the only fan switches available are mounted to the cylinder block (Aprilia), so if I wanted auto switching I had to make/adapt a device. Only having a mechanical switch is getting cranky. The electronic switch had to be changed to switch 'On' when the temperature was too high and due to this it also needed a diode out to the fan because with this arrangement when it switched on the fan it switched power off to the module. I don't want you worrying tho, I made sure to only use thin wire from the battery, not thick so no chance of it blowing up.
