restoring the muffler's finish
restoring the muffler's finish
I am trying to restore the black finish on the muffler of may Paso. It has lots of little rust spots on it. Is this finish black chrome ? If it is, can it be sent out to a chrome shop for refinishing ?

Yes, its that magical "black crome" , but i think, these days nowbody knows anymore company, where they can be fixed and if thatkind place can be found, it might be very high coast job, so with that amount of money You can find better ones to Your baby... Think first, then work!
Btw, i asked some years ago from one very good company, can they chrome my one pipes and they told, that they can, but all things from inside pipes MUST take away first, so i gave up that job!!!! It depends, are pipes such, that U can open them and repack again after chrome job.

You also might consider ceramic coating. Again, must be able to dis-assemble and repack. Did it to my FZ750 Yammy 4 into 1 exhaust with silver gloss about 5 years ago and still looks like done yesterday. You usually have choice of many colors including black. Being in L.A. you should have many places there that can do such as Jet Hot Coatings.

One option is to look for some original pipes from ebay. I have seen some with quite low price sometimes ago, cause many have changed to open ones.

this company has a good site with examples of the sort of thing your talking about.
not completely related but i have some end cans that will need refinishing and possibly a dent taking out... here's a picture of them (got my ftp sorted so expect to see a lot more of this bike soon)
Does anyone recognise what they are? manufactered by whom? ... they have a diameter of @50-53mm at the ends.
anything useful thanks
