DDL Elefant Starter Upgrade Kit

Post by Mark »

Hello All,

Does anyone know whether the $55.- starter upgrade kit from DDL fits the Paso:

http://ddl.restorlight.com/

If it doesn't maybe we could clarify how many Paso owners would be interested and ask DDL to make a batch.

At the same time it might be a good idea to replace the Lucas "Prince of Darkness" starter solenoid with the $38.- Yamaha starter relay that is currently available from

http://www.ca-cycleworks.com/shop/catal ... /elec.html

The old Lucas solenoid is not manufactured anymore. TRW bought Lucas and subsequently sold off the division that made these solenoids. The new owner went out of business within 12 months...

Cheers,

Mark

I replaced my Lucas relay in my 750Paso by using Hitachi unit from newer Ducatis. Much more realible and easy to find for good price. Only need to modifie holder and those small wires coming to relay. Also better same time make new bigger diameter wires(like16 square mm) to hole starter main circuit. Easy to do such, if some electrician have that pressing too to end of cables. Btw, paint that lucas relay first green, that fishes are not scared, when U trow it to river !!!! :funny: I did mine so....... piece of shit!

It's not the starter and it's not the solenoid that's crap, it's the wiring. Make the upgrade to the wiring and all of your starting troubles will go away.

Getting rid of the Lucas solenoid should be done on principal. It's a "best practice" to eliminate all things Lucas....

 the problem is when the starters turning the coils dont get 12v more like about 9v through the roundabout wiring . the wiring upgrade listed in the forum somewhere with the relays is a must for quick and easy starting

That "coil relay" is good to do to 750 Paso! Easy to put it close coils. I did such to mine and happy with that...
