Marzocchi shock nightmare

Post by yellerduck »

I'm trying to get my Marzocchi PBS1R shock rebuilt that goes on my 1990 750 Sport. However, Marzocchi is going on two months just trying to see if they have the parts. It's a major hassle just trying to even get them to answer your emails / phone calls.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have searched high and low and no other shock is the height that I need, that being 34.4 cm. I haven't found any aftermarket shocks either.

Currently, I have an older SS shock but it's about 1/2 too small. I don't know what to do other than change out the wheels so I could go with a different shock.

Where are you?

If in the UK could point you in the direction of a suspension engineering company who lower bikes and rebuild forks/shocks also set up race bikes.

I think changing the wheels to use a different shock is a bit extreme...

You can get in touch with Steve @ bevelheaven.com and he can probably put together a Performance works shock to whatever specs you'd like. I'm guessing Fox could do the same thing.

Or contact Lindemann's and see if he can rebuild the stocker for you. Or maybe he can modify some other shock, maybe even your SS shock, to work. Or if you want to spend the money I'm sure any qualified Ohlins dealer can set you up. Ditto Penske.

Fox built a special shock for my Paso 5 years ago. I can dig out the paperwork if you want.

I would also check with Works Performance. They custom built a shock for me when I did a wheel swap on my VFR several years ago, and at the time it was very reasonable (it was only a 2-way adjustable unit though).

They don't list a shock for the 750 Sport, citing clearance issues, but that was for their piggyback reservoir. If they can still custom build one with a remote reservoir instead, we'd be in business.

I called and left a message with their engineering group, I'll let you know what they say!
