Should i get this LTD?

Post by nomoduc »

Well I am possibly thinking of getting back into Ducs. The Paso was the bike that got me into the marque. But when I fianlly got one, it wasn't a Paso. I got a 75 860. Then a few years later I got the New 95 916. It was mainly used as a trackbike... Sold it, then have had various bikes since. But now I have a 88 ltd with 8k in mind. All stock. Asking price is $3k. I remember they were $6k and some change new right? So is that a fair price. I saw the clasifieds and that seems to be in the ballpark. Should I or shouldn't I??? I'm riding a modified Hawk gt now. Fun and light. But now a long distance hauler.

That's a decent price for a low mileage nice condidtion 750. You should find out when the last service was done be cause you will have to add that to your final total.

Ducati factory have been used very many red colours in they bikes and thats why its not so simple job to find EXACT Ducati colour, cause it depends also colour making company, NOT ONLY colour code! That red colour is one of most difficultiest colours, when i asked it from our local painter guru, cause UV is making plenty of harm just to red colour. Coming to Francescos question: All depends, how good Your painter is to mach new colour to old one, OR if You want to change colour little to some direction, Then Its Your choise. Anyway colour code is ONLY very small part of this colour disscussion. 750 Paso is painted using more yellow in red, campared to 907IE colour and i wanted my 750 Paso look more dark red, than original, so we choose red, what is very close to -95 916 Ducati red, what is totally different, than 750 Paso original red... Anyway sooner or later have to repaint Paso fairings, so then its right time to think very carefully, how it should look. I like more deeper(dark) red, than that original 750 Paso red and i repainted also those lower parts to gunmetal gray, cause that gray fits to deep red, like "hand to nose" Anyway everybody should paint they Pasos, like they want, i only say my opinion to this!

Btw, Francesco, Do U know, what that "perse"(mpre) means in Fin language???

I used to sell auto paint and found it so hard to match most motorcycle paint that our shop would repaint the whole bike. Real pearl colors are impossible to match becauce the pearl is mixed in the clear that is sprayed over the white (blue red black) base color. To get the match correct the exact amount of pearl must be applied in the same number of coats at the same air pressure, fan pattern, viscousity, temp etc. You could get the tint of the color correct from one angle but it would look wrong from a differnt angle.

Modern pearl colors seen on new cars (mid 90s on) have the pearl look in the base color, where you can play with the look of the color by adjusting air presure and viscousity, much like spraying metalic colors. Modern paints do not change color as you look at them from different angles the same way that a "real" pearl job does, that is how you tell the difference.

Sorry I ran away with the thread.

Is a Ltd Edition worth any more than an equal 750?

Thanks for replies all. I was going to consider all things needed before I made an offer. I was gonna do the belts and valves myself. and get new tires of course also. Pretty much do a full presale service on it before I ride. If I buy it.. I just need to read up on the upgrades needed. I've heard of the regulator, carb swap, some starters need replace...What else is common. I guess I better go through the forum and read up. When I had my 916, I went through a regulator, took off rear spindle to check for cracks, coolant overflow tank replaced... Typical...haha.

Garnet, very intresting info from You!
LTD have those bigger headers(like many Euro modells also have), some say, that lightened flywheel(i am not sure about that, cause i havent seen such flywheel). Also maybe more open exhaust pipes and that pearl white colour. So, not so much over normal 750Paso. There is some old topic about this LTD/normal version comparing....

You already told me what it means, after - I think - a good pint of vodka :funny: :funny: :funny: :funny: :funny:
So, I explained you that in Italian "persempre" means "forever".
