LED Bulbs

HI all. Since electrics are such a challenge for us, would the use of LED bulbs in the signals and tail help out the power consumption? Does anyone have the expertise to answer if this is a useful consideration or not?

I think the current saving will not to be too much, since you could replace only the parking, the stop and the indicator lights, that are not always working and no matter there would drain very little current.

But, about this matter Antti could say the decisive word .

I don't think so. The draw from these items isn't the root cause or even a contributing cause to the electric issues of the Paso.

A more useful task would be to clean all of your connections and grounds.

Guys are right! That dont save so much current, so only good things are, that LED blinkers least much longer and they are fast, BUT at leat here those LED bulbs are illegal(i have 2 in both Pasos backlights and one pair in ST4S rear blinkers, but they are "nothing so special" stuff). I use such in Paso backlight, cause its bolted so heavily to frame and normal bulbs are very often broken, caused by vibration of Ducati engine. That is ONLY reason for using them... Anyway, polices have here more important things, than check mc bulbs.... :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

i also use led bulbs for the back/stoplight and blinkers and i've exchanged all the dashboardlights for leds.
to do this alltogether, i could easily install a more powerfull headlight.

Anyway, U have to have enough big wires/fuses(maybe add relays,etc...) for headlight, that can handle bigger current! :laugh: How many Watts?

Btw, those blinkers and brakelights are used so rarely, that it dont save so much current. Normal backlight is normally all time on, so "saving current" is quite minimal....

For the same reason of reliability and lower current I tried an LED rear bulb (18 LED's, including 6 arranged radially to act as a number plate light) in the taillight on my Paso and it was rubbish! Much dimmer than a standard incandescent bulb, with a poor spread of light. The stop light was also very poor, both lights were unsafe to use in my opinion. This bulb was bought on ebay and given to me as a gift so perhaps I shouldn't have expected too much. From the brief research I did it would appear that LED bulbs aren't yet as bright as normal ones, though I hope this will change, apparently 'Luxeon' LED's put out a lot more light and are being going to be used as original equipment in cars. So maybe someone will make a good quality tail bulb using one.

There are VERY manykind of LEDs around, and only ones, what function in such systems are "super bright LEDs". Those have been quite expensive to this time, but now seems, that also those are lower priced and then can used in many light systems around... I would use "light blue" ones in such systems, cause that red, or yellow lense makes right colour to see by eyes and those light blue ones seems to give best brightness... I have tested some...

This is what I have done. I have a 2.5mm cable run directly from the battery, through a fuse to 2 relays (one for high and one for low beam) bolted onto the back of the plastic headlight surround. I soldered all connections. I have a 75/80w bulb.

I have also put in higher w bulbs in the dash.

There are other things you can do to like turn the headlight of when starting the bike and only switching it on when you start to make some revs.

Another thing I do is open the throttle a little when you first start to crank the motor as this reduces the vacuum when the system is under the most strain of that first crank over.

Paso is a little like a Woman. Fix or improve what you can and work and learn to love with what you can't.

I have had reliable bikes that need little servicing, they did every thing that was asked of them. I loved them too and did allot of Km's on them and now I find them boring. They were Honda's.

Now I have a beautiful, feisty, high maintenance and temperamental bike that I love to look at, tinker with and ride.

She is like a mistress. She brings out a passion in me that my other rides don’t but I would not like to have her as my main drive and it’s always fun to be with her so long as I don’t ride her for to long. She is only my mistress but my only mistress!

had mine in pieces last week after that damm weber blocked up changed to the mikuni carbs made a big difference no stopping at lights and far smoother acceration , easiest change over have ever done on any vehicle.

I sold my Honda and I bought my Duck!
