MARZOCCHI M1R

Post by Stingray230SX »

i have been in contact with marzocchi usa by e-mail a while ago but they didnt respond to my answer concerning the size of the seal area at the fork tube(i guess,because after the e-mail response asking me what size,and my answer that it was 41.7mm, they didnt get back to me,and i let it go)

today i called them and spoke with a guy that seemed like he wanted to help me, and he looked at what he had in the way of reference materials and he has (2) different oil seals AND (2) different dust scrapers with the 41.7 measurement.

the difference is in the thickness or height of the seal/scraper-shield.
He wants me to measure but mine is not currently apart,so my question is does anyone have an old seal/and or dust scraper left over that has either part numbers(he asked for that)or that we can measure for comparison to what he has.

you can reply here or pm me i will be checking as i need to get some and service my forks in a bad way.

thanks

I just replaced the seals and dust boots on my '87 Paso 750 Marzocchi M1R forks. They are still available through Ducati. I got the dust boots from http://www.proitalia.com and was fortunate enough to find a local shop that had some OEM Marzocchi seals that were also used on an 80's KTM dirtbike. Here are the measurements that I got from the original components on my Paso....

Seal (marked 41 - 55 - 10 - 10)

ID = 41mm
OD = 55mm
Thickness - 10mm

Dust boot/scraper (no markings)

ID = 41mm
OD = 60mm
Total height - 13~13.5mm
OD of lip for slider - 55mm
Height of lip for slider - 5mm
Thickness of section that rests on top of slider - 3mm

I hope this helps.

Hey Desmo, thanks a lot....

that should work for me,the only varible seems to be the id as my M1R in the manual for my 907 says its 41.7 and he had (2) seals that were 41.7 id 55 od and either 7.5 height or 10 height

So other than the difference in id41 vs 41.7(could this be because they changed the 907 fork tubes different than the earlier 750 tubes?)

i think i can pull my dust scraper up enough to get its measurements and i will get the 41.7/55/10 oil seals and should be good to go.

thanks again

The M1R fork is the same for 750, 906, 907, 851 etc., so also the gaskets and the dust covers would be the same.
The only differences among them are for the "travel" (my dictionary says so) got by spacers into the fork.
So, don't worry: all the M1R are 41,7 mm.

Have to correct now: 750 Pasos OIL SEAL(not dust scraper) is HIGHER, than 907 have. I am quite sure, that they dont fit to each others...But havent tried!

From microfilm:
000041394 = 750 Paso seal
93040051A = 907IE seal

Dust covers are exact same, no matter different numbers from microfilm(typical to Ducati... :laugh: )
000048396 = 750
800048396 = 907IE

I have in my hand original 907IE seal and aftermarket 750 seal, looks totally different, as numbers also in microfilms (OEM parts...) :evil: :thumbup:

Doug, i measured these just:

750: Height 10.0mm, measured both, close ID and OD. Seal have 1 spring.

Marks in seal: 6036 TCL 41.7 55 10 10.5

907: Height close ID 10.3mm and close OD 7.5mm. Seal have 2 springs.

Marks in seal: 528134 MARZHOCCI 41.7 55 7.5/10

I am quite sure, that need to put just right seal, cant use "via versa" :thumbup:

I hope, U didnt get hangover from Jägermaister... :laugh:

availability from ducati?

Post by Stingray230SX »

I was under the impression that these seals were unavailable from ducati any more???

i have no local,indeed no in state ducati dealers at all and will try to call BCM as they are always recommended on the ducati list.

however if that falls through i will go back to the marzocchi guys and hopefully come up with a set of seals/scrapers.

anybody know for sure what the status is?

I ordered some back in November, but after waiting 5 weeks, I found them elsewhere. I have no idea if they ever came in or not (they were listed as still being available through Ducati). The shop isn't open today, but if you give Myer's Ducati in Asheville, NC a call, they may have the seals and dust boots in stock. When I ended up getting mine elsewhere, they told me that they'd just stick the ones I ordered into their inventory, so.....if this is the case, they should have a set of both the seals and dust boots for a 750 in their inventory. At least, according to Finnpaso, you can at least use the dust boots....

Myer's - http://www.myersmotorcycles.com

I hope this helps.

Thanks, Desmo...

I tried BCM but they too are closed today :sad:

I went ahead and called marzocchi cause i remember these being hard to get....

that place in austrailia(gowenloch) maybe says they have them but they are harder to order from......you have to fax them a sheet of paper with your creditcard info on it and all your p/n info and it just seemed like a chore.

So the oil seal p/n 93040051A(ducati) is a p/n 528134(marzocchi)
this is verified

dust scraper p/n 800048396(ducati) is p/n 533138(marzocchi) this is not yet verified(trying to find a marzocchi p/n on my dust scraper right now)

i will post again when i have seals/scrapers in hand and on the bike (hopefully)

Thank you Francesco, i have went ahead and ordered the oil seals and dust scrapers from marzocchi. it seems that the oil seals are a go and hopefully the dust scrapers will be the right ones as well, so i think it is a good experiment to confirm these p/n's for future reference.

they were going to ship them out today and i am already in the process of getting ready to get them installed.

if for some reason these are not correct i will gladly take you up on your kind offer to try to locate these ....

thanks again
