that fits by milimeters. If you want to keep your swingarm a 170/60-17 wuold be better.

i see variuos rims but i don't know what to choose,
i'm wondering about the chain allignement with a new monster ss sprocket, and for the clearance in the swingarm at all....
i planned to mount a 170/60 or a 170/55...
it's too hard to do or it's better to mount a 16 tyre like 180 /60
waiting for all suggestions

of course you`re free to choose. You don`t have to stick to original Ducati wheels as you need to make adaptions anyway.
If you stay with Ducati wheels you have 4.5" or 5.5" width.
If you go with the 4.5" rims with 160/60-17 tire you have plenty of clearance, even more than before. Probably that`s the best solution regarding driveability, but the wheel seen from behind looks narrow and high. So I excluded that for myself at the time I was thinking about the conversion myself. (I have pictures somewhere ...)
Then I had a set of Marchesini wheels from a Monster S4, the rear rim being 5.5". We tried a 180 tire but that`s extremely tight. So I`d say that`s a no-go unless as Anntti suggested you take a 907ie swingarm (but that`s longer and will also influence handling).
A 170/60 fits nicely on the 5.5 rim. Clearance is a bit better, but of course the chain adjuster needs to be turned as far as possible to the rear to give more space in the front. Doing that you lose a bit of the range you had to adjust the chain.
If I`d do the conversion I personally would go for this combination.

I have decided to remain with 16" wheels. Getting the original Michelin tires is no problem with a little bit of research, but you never know if the tires are new or just old stock.
I will try 180/60. There`s a company in Germany offering the conversion legally. The only thing here is that the choice of tires is very limited. 180/60-16 is a standard (heavy) tourer tire that is not suitable for a sports bike. The only matching one I know of is one Avon type which exists also in VR speed rating (beware there`s also the tourer version of the same tire with HR rating).
Either way you`ll have to realign the chain and use spacers. (not for 160 on 4.5)

But as mentioned at the start there`re many other bikes which wheels you can use so you may also go for some 5.00x17 wheels ...

could be that 170/60 also fits on 4.5" rim. Don`t know that, you`ll have to check some charts. Usually on websites of tire manufacturers you should find the recommended rim size for each tire.
