1992 907ie questions

Im looking at a 1992 907ie.Of course it has some issues.Id appreciate if someone out there could give me
some clues on what it needs.The mileage seems to be in around 55 thou.The dash was replaced with 18 on
it and the balance is a guess from the current owner.It needs two tires.Some abrassions that a bike this old
would normally have.The two big things is the fact the clutch seems to make alot or racket.Im bieng told this
is normal for a dry clutch?? Secondly, there appears to be a oil leak on the bottom clutch side of the motor.
Does anyone know if theres a common leak that these older Ducati s develop in that area?? Can anyone tell me
what would be the best and worse case scenario with this leak.The owner is down to 2300.00 and it had a current
inspection as of last year.Any help would be appreciated.Im new to Ducatis...

From WHERE is that oil coming out EXACTLY???? Between cases? Some damage in r/l case? If between cases, then surely need to open hole engine. That "rattle and hum" is normal to dry clutch, but surely have to open clutch to see, are plates and "bell" gone out of they lifetime. That is very simply job, but You must take care, what is order of plates, when You open package...

Is the clutch cover "opened", with many holes on it?
If so, the clutch is much more noisy. Really, the dry clutches are much more noisy.
For the oil leaks, try to locate them exactly and let us know.

I want to thank everyone for the info.I havent been able to pinpoint where the oil leak
is coming from.I just know the general location.I wanted to try to figure out if I ended
up splitting the cases to fix the leak,would that be something that I could handle myself
or would I need a dealer to do it.All my skills came from working on the older Harleys.
This motor looks a little more sophisticated to me.I wanted to avoid paying 2300.00
dollars for the bike and end up paying a dealer another 2300.00 to fix a oil leak.Not
to mention my nearest dealer is 50 plus miles away.Any insight would be appreciated.

Really, the Ducs are much more sofisticated than the Harley regarding the timing.
Nobody can tell if you'll be able to do the work because nobody can tell you what's the problem...
No matter, with the vintage bikes the best buy is the bike which doesn't have any problem, even if you have to spend $.1,000 more.
That is saved money....
