Paso Compatible Motors?

Post by Zak »

Is there a list going at this point? I have a spare 916 motor, ECU, throttle bodies etc. just sitting and I was thinking it could be pretty mean to make a sleeper paso.

Anyone know which motors' holes match up with the paso?

Thanks,
Zak

I once concidered fitting a 4 valve donk to my 906 but was advised that getting the rear cylinder head to fit was more of a issue than the bolt holes , which should be the same but to my eyes it always looked as if it would fit

You can search the Boz's swithc to an 851 engine that can be installed in the frame without big efforts.

You are correct. The engine mounting holes align but you will not be able to use the one that is in the horizontal cylinder because the Desmoquattro (and probably a lot of newer 2V engines) do not have that threaded hole. I do know that my wife's 2001 M900ie has them, though. Also, the extra width may not allow the head to clear the lower frame rail on the right side of the bike, and......if you use the standard Desmoquattro head instead of the Testa Basso (from the ST4 engine), you may have some difficulties with getting the front wheel to clear the head when the front suspension is compressed. This may still be an issue with the Testa Basso heads, but I have not determined this, yet. Oh yeah, the actual width of the engine case at the mounting holes are too wide to fit the Paso frame, so they need to be cut down (at least with the ST4 engine).

The wider 4V head will NOT allow the tank to clear. You will need to modify the bottom of the gas tank to get it to clear the extra width...

Here is the horizontal head hitting the frame and it isn't even close to being in position in the frame...

Here is a 916 engine from an ST4 in a 1988 Paso frame with the lower frame rail cut out for the horizontal head...

Here is the gap between the tank and the frame from the tank resting on the vertical head...
