Unleaded
Can my 907IE run that unleaded rubbish?
Hey, come to that, can you run the 906 and the 750 (Paso and Sport) on it too?

Re: Unleaded
I'm sure the motor has hardened valve seats to cope with unleaded fuel, and I run hi-octane...I think 98 on mine.Rhino wrote:Can my 907IE run that unleaded rubbish?
what I did do when I re-sealed the tank was to remove all the old deposits from base of tank as my bike was standing for a long time, and I strongly recomend to fit a new fuel filter once you clean the tank

Cheers Claude.

Re: Unleaded
FYI....almost any engine can be run safely on unleaded fuel. The only concern would be in vehicles used for towing or competitive racing. Its all about the heat, not the material used for the valve seat or what fuel you use.
Yes back when unleaded fuel was first publicly introduced there was a lot of bellyaching about the damage that could result all of which over time proved to be an old wives tale. The simple fact is no matter what your valve seat material is it will get a good hardening during your engines break-in regardless of if you know how to do it or not
The cooling attributes of lead deposits on your valves and seats proved to be more of a detrimental effect on valve train durability. In the end it was found to be the oil's and the fuel's cooling effects that really mattered. One more reason why direct injection finally wins over the carb!

Re: Unleaded
Thanks Guys
Claude - one of the problems I have with the 907 is that the bike was left standing with a full tank in a private museum for many many years. As a result the entire inside of the tank is covered with a sludge which may in time break up. Can I clean it out with anything or just change my filters like it was a religion?

Re: Unleaded
Rhino if the tank is in good conddition ie no corrosion a good clean will be all its needed, if there is a lot of gunk it would be good to remove the fuel pump and clean the inlet strainer, but its a bit of work to dismantle tank components, the fuel pump is only clipped in by 2 plastic clips, when you fit the hoses back make sure you have good clamps and tighten them up (dont overtighten) as there is a fair bit of pressure in EFI, also...when you finish just put enough petrol in tank to prime pump and stick a torch in there to check for petrol leaks on joints...have funRhino wrote:Thanks guys - have purchased tank cleaner from Holdens (Thanks Higgy) and will give tank a thorough clean out.

its a glorious day here just about to leave for a ride with the ducati club and should meet up with Nigel

Cheers Claude.

Re: Unleaded
It is a good idea to remove the pump and strainer and any plastic bits before treating the tank. POR-15 generally provides great instructions with their products and they work very well when followed to the letter. You can also download the instructions from the website
