907 brake fittings . nipples OK or only banjos

Post by blazing928 »

greetings all, i hope every one had a good Xmas & new year! [I have been on holidays for ages!].

Anyway my 907 developed a seep in the front brake line and a mate asked me to join him on Sunday for a slow, loud ride with a group of Harleys [V twins at least].
So off to the garage to fix.

I purchased ages ago a set of Cobra braided brake lines for the restoration bike.
Now the lines to the caliper from the "T" piece both have nipple ends, where the 907 original rubber lines have banjos.

I am getting a small leak under presure at the "T" piece.
I am thinking the "T" is not designed for a nipple, only a banjo fitting. It doesn't look like it has a concave surface to mate with the convex nipple.

The nipples are up very tight, so something is not sealing.

Any thoughts or experience from the group?

thanks
Nigel

Nigel, you did use new aluminium or copper washers on both sides of each nipple end ?
Be careful the brakefuid doesn`t drop on your front fender as it will damage the paint.

yes , new washers on the banjo fittings, master cylinder to "T" piece, but the nipple fittings just screw straight in, so hence why i think they are leaking.

We just got so much rain here in Melbourne, the left over from Cyclone Yassi.
About 50mm in the last few hours, streets are flooded, a bit of choas in the streets, man hole covers popping up in the streets. Meanwhile we had a nice dinner in St Kilda at 'Laus family kitchen'. funny how life goes on! My garage had water gushing over the gutter, came in 3m past the door, silly Nigel left all the tools on the ground.....
