For sale: brandnew dashboard NOS

Post by ducbertus »

Hi All,
as I found a very nice dashboard in km version, I'm willing to sell my brandnew mph dashboard.
it is free of any damage or any user mark.
I'm offering it here on the forum before putting it on Ebay as it is a very nice part.
My price is € 125 excl. duty's and shipping. shipping is worldwide and payment by PayPal. (when I bought this part is was much more expensive)

If you have any question, please contact me.

Hi Gene,

checked both the clocks by turning a small screwdriver and saw both the needles moving. this is no surprise as the unit never have seen operation.
shipping to Reston, Virginia costs € 34,90. PayPal charges are about € 4.
so the total is € 125 + € 34.90 + € 4 = €163.90

Hi Olaf,

the part is brandnew, never used, never mounted. sofar I've not tested the clock, but I would be disappointed when the clock wasn't working.

Hi Gene,

in that case I'll wait a week to give you the opportunity to buy the dashboard.

Hello Bertus,

if Gene doesn't want or can't buy the clocks, i am definately committed to buying them off you.
I am in Kent UK so postage should be a bit cheaper.

I love paypal by the way, makes life a bit easier.

All the best

Dave.

2VTwin and Hondaboy,

I made an agreement with Gene first, so I'll stick to that.
If for whatever reason the deal with Gene doesn't take place, I'll come back to you Hondaboy.
any way I'll let you also known as well, when Gene has bought the dashboard.

Shipping to the UK is only a few €. I was suprised about how expensive the transport to the USA is.

to DucBertus and 2Vtwin

no problem, i just thought i'd express my interest in the dash.
in the meantime do yo know where i might find the printed circuit board for these as mine is a right old mess and has been subject to a few bodged repairs.

Thanks for your reply

Dave.

Hi Hondaboy,

I've still two dashes in km/hr version. the speedo must be replaced conferting in to mph version.
I strongly believe the PCB's are the same.
Maybe an other forum member can confirm this.

If so, I'll happy to sell you one.

Morning Lads.

The PCB on the back of the Speedo/Dash should be the same regardless of mph or km/h. Its just there to get the connections for all the idiot lights and 12v to the clock etc. Where it falls down is the copper is bonded to a flexible medium, probably some sort of plastic. A normal PCB has a solid substrate such as bakerlite or fibreglass, with the copper bonded to this, so its fairly firm and doesn't bend. The plastic type is thinner and more flexible, so can bend around corners etc. Having the dash mounted up front and out in the open, the plastic will deterorate over time (say 20 years!). What will happen evetually is the copper will start coming away from the plastic. When I pulled the dash out of my 907, it was covered in greasy dirt and crap. Connections to the idiot lights was intermittant at best. I cleaned it with a proper PCB cleaner. Here you have to be careful too, because a lot of chemicals will melt the plastic! The other thing that may cause problems is where the lights and wiring loom plugs connect. In a normal situation, gold is the best type of edge connector (it doesn't oxidize) and has a reasonable conductivity rating (No 4 from memory, copper is the best). What the dash has is copper that has been tinned. This is where solder is adherred to the copper. Solder is made up of Tin and Lead (60/40 for Electronics), which will oxidize over time. Tin and Lead mix has a good conductivity rating, but individually they are crap. The lead reacts with air and you get a black film over the solder. This black film is a very nice insulator, so a dodgy connection happens. Copper is similar when it oxidizes. Shinny copper good conductor. Dull looking copper, not so good. It can be cleaned off with the same PCB cleaner, or even just unpluging the connector/light will get a good connection again. That is why you go insane looking for intermittant electrical connections!

I purchased a dash for Italspares in NSW. It was km/h version, and was about $125 plus postage. Jim had 1 or 2 left back then. He may still have them?

Cheers.

Nick.
