FARTS AROUND TOWN

Post by richard »

Hi Guys
My 907 has a restored top end performance courtesy of a new fuel filter but still farts around town. It does have a sporty exhaust (carbon cans) fitted but the previous owner said it had been ecu'd etc. The bike starts easy and ticks over fine. Just stripped off the bodywork and noticed that the front cylinder has an oil leak around the cylinder head. This does not seem too bad as no oil stains the garage floor. Would this cause fartiness? Would it make the front pot run weaker? Should I fix it or just wipe it down for now? Like I said the bike runs well out of town.

the oil leak just looks untidy, but does not affect performance, that around town hickup would most likely be the typical p7 3000 rpm splutter :dunno:
Cheers Claude.

Hi Richard,

can you be some more specific about the farting? is it worse after feeding her with onnions or garlic?
please tell us about the revs. when it occurs, speed, gear, opening the throttle or closing.
does it die completely or is just one leg missing?

Richard,

It may be worthwhile checking that the TPS is correctly setup at 150mV with the butterflies fully closed. It is quite a finicky process to do this correctly but there is a good set up guide here http://www.bikeboy.org/ducati2vthrottleb.html

A common source of oil leakage on both the horizontal and vertical heads is the oil gallery drilling which is blanked off by a grub screw just to the left of the spark plug. I usually remove this and replace it with an allen screw with a copper or fibre washer under the head.

Thanks fellas. I gunked off the oil and ran the bike for over 20 mins in my garage. No oil leaked but maybe a bit more pressure from a ride out would be a different story. Thanks for the tips Derek. I'll investigate.

BERTUS...The farts appear at low revs and when I am negotiating traffic or slow turns. On a rising throttle all is well.

Hi Richard,

sound like TPS and/or balancing the carbs. maybe the ciggybut will help also. this is the dampening of inlet pulse towards the airpressure sensor for measuring the pressure in the airbox.
their are some tricks more, but these cost some money and the tricks mentioned sofar are for free.

Thank you Bertus. I am visiting a local man who recently rebuilt his 907 only to have a van driver run into the back of him and wreck the bike. Bike is dead - man is ok. He thinks he can help tune the bike. I'll let you know.

FARTINESS CURED

Post by richard »

FARTINESS CURED. Turned out one of the cylinders was running lean. Took it to a friend who did an injector balance. Found out later that the compression was a little down but it was even on both cylinders. Still it pulls fine and the great thing is the bike is now composed in traffic.

richard, was that injector balance, or injector clean...i dont think you can change the injector parameters on the 907 :dunno:
in any case good to see the bike is going well again
Cheers Claude.
