Shock replacement

Advanced this question awhile back and got no response. Maybe with the influx of new members i'll get the answer. Would like to upgrade rear shock to prefferably Ohlins. Can't find any listing for Paso series but seem to remember hearing or reading shock the same as 851/888. Can't seem to find listing for them, but know Ohlins made shock on 888 SP3 that i once had. Can anybody enlighten me?
Thanks, Carl

Carl,

My 750 has an Ohlins rear shock. I belive it also has a non-standard rising rate rear linkage too (which prevents the fitting of a centre stand), so this may not help. She is currently in storage but I could go there over the weekend and look for a part number, if that helps.

My 750 has a Marzocchi, which I think works extremely well. However, the Ducati part number for the Ohlins Paso shock listed in the original Spare Parts Catalogue is 037059100, if it's any help.

It's really good to see you in Forum Faces, by the way, Paul!

Paul,
Thanks for the offer to check # but in my advanced years i'm unwilling to give up the convienience of a center stand. Believe with rising rate linkage, shock would be shorter than without. Also in most cases on Ohlins shocks, all you will be able to find is spring part number. Again, thanks for the offer.
Erskine,
Ducati part numbers mean even less to Ohlins people than to most Ducati dealers. OEM shock was decent for it's day, but until you replace with properly set up top quality Ohlins, Penske or other such aftermarket shock, you can't begin to appreciate how far modern technology has advanced ride and handling. To you also, thanks for your time researching this.

Hi,
the number of 851 rear shock is 36520171 and then is different by the Paso shock.
Therefore the OEM shock is very, very expensive.
I think it's better to buy a Ohlins, if you can :lick:
Ciao.

I've been pursuing the shock question for over a year now. finally have settled on about the only available answer.
My preference was Ohlins, could find no listings anywhere. By the way, there is listing for 851/888, finally went to Ohlins USA. They said never produced shock for 907 and that the shocks they made for 750 were a contract order to Ducati, same as Gates produced cam belts to Ducati order these are unavailable for retail sale. Only thru Ducati. Ohlins USA said they would look thru perts bins for suitable pieces to custom build shock for me. No luck, Ohlins out.
Contacted Penske, they said had specs for 907 and could build their 8981 shock for this application. Ordered first of this week, will probably be three weeks til i recieve.
Will update as to if worth all the effort after installation and mountain trip.
