Just joined a couple of days ago, and this is my first attempt at a post. I have a question about Barnett clutches. Has anybody used the Barnett kit#306-25-40002 on a '90 750 sport.
If yes, how does it compare to the Surflex brand. Thanks

I've always thought that the the Surflex is higher quality than the Barnett in general. But I don't have a good basis for my bias.

Re: 1990 750 Sport clutch
Has anyone bought any of the clutch kits from Stein-Dinse. I'm wondering what the differences are between whatever brands they have on the site. There seem to be about 4 different kits available for our earlier bikes, I've emailed asking for the details but they are a bit slow in replying and I want to move on one ASAP.

Re: 1990 750 Sport clutch
I see three kits for the 750S. Two are from Adige (Ad) and one is from Surflex (SF).
Don`t know what the difference between the two Adige kits is as according to their website there is only one kit. I`ve always used Adige, never Surflex.
I remember hearing that Adige was the original supplier for Ducati but I don`t know if that is fact.

Re: 1990 750 Sport clutch
I don't know anything about these two other brands. All I can tell you, is that I just installed a Barnett kit on my 1990 750 Sport and it's shifting very well. I bought the kit on eBay for $170 USD, including shipping. I was a little worried because the Barnett kit was so cheap competed to the Surflex $340USD.
I have only put about 30 miles on it, but so far so good. I can almost even find Neutral when I'm stopped
The Barnett kit comes with a few extra plates, because it's made for a six speed transmission. So I had to tinker with the stack height a bit, but I finally got it to work. If anybody is interested I can provide the sequence in which I installed the plates.
Sorry for the long post

Re: 1990 750 Sport clutch
Which clutch slave does the 1990 have as I do not see a kit on Barnetts Web site for the earlier clutch. The later friction plates will work but my understanding is the steel plates have a different tooth count. It also doesn't have the outer thick one sided steel plate.
I'm chasing a full replacement kit otherwise there are plenty of cheap friction only layer kits around.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I had to use my old outer thick one sided steel/friction plate. As far as the steel plate tooth count it's the same. When I called Barnett they did not list a kit for the older 750s. However kit#306-25-40002 fits a lot of Ducs. with dry clutches, like the 748, 750S, 851, 888, 900SS and so on. Because you need a full replacement set this would not be the best kit for you.

Re: 1990 750 Sport clutch
Not sure I need a full kit as such but all the steels have some wear and grooving and the thick plate has almost no friction material left hence I think my only option is a full kit. Was tossing up just the frictions or the Barnett kit but concerned I still won't get an "as new" clutch. Interesting the hub tooth count is the same, I' sure I'd seen talk on ms that the later ones differed in that respect. Obviously some of the later steels would work if you could buy the thick one sided one separately but I haven't seen it anywhere and by the time you get it if you could then a later kit the cost probably ends about the same.Nunodeo wrote:Sorry I forgot to mention that I had to use my old outer thick one sided steel/friction plate.
