The difference between master cylinders

Post by nickta »

Hi everyone.
While hunting down parts and what not for the bikes, I have found two clutch master cylinders which could be a match to the P750/906/907. They both are suitable for Ducati’s (one is specific for the Paso), both are 13mm, both have the built in reservoir, and one is about 2/3 of the price of the other (the other is the one for the Paso). The P/No for the recommended M/C is 10467014, and the cheaper one is 10467017. I’m thinking one will have a mirror mount and the other doesn’t, or one has a cutout micro switch and the other doesn’t, of Brembo just like playing with people’s minds!? Even the company selling them don’t know what the difference is!
Anyone have any ideas or clues?
Cheers
Nick.

Hi Hamish.
It’s funny, but the standard M/C has a mirror mount and a rubber plug in it. Ditto the front brake master cylinder. They are chasing down spec sheets now, so will see what is what. An idea I had is they are suitable for different sized handle bar mounts?
Cheers.

 now I have to go look at my clutch cyl ....I dont recall there being a mirror mount , and I have had it in bits .....probly is one . I kept the brake and clutch cylinders off my 1997 900ss that I pranged ....nice gold finish , adjustable lever position , always meant to put them on Paso  ....might get to it one day .
Next door and his Mrs were prattin on about liking red ducati's ( we were drinking Ukrainian 8.2% 500ml beers so there's your reason  ) ....got me thinkin coz they dont know I have the Paso , or the Guzzi

Hi Hamish.
That’s not where I expected the mirror mount to be! The original is built into the casting of the body next to the fluid reservoir.
I’m not 100% happy with the rebuild kit, as it is still sticking. It’s ok when sitting in brake fluid, but once it is dried out a little, it sticks again. Rather than root around with another kit and get the same result, I’m half tempted to get the 7017 M/C and replace the lot. I purchased a little while ago a set of 916 gold M/C’s for the 907 (still waiting to be fitted). There are PS13 and 15 in black that are also available, so they may even get a gurnsey. So many options to choose from!
I am a fan of the Guzzi’s. The Mk5 Le Mans was a particular fave. They come up every now and then, but have a pretty big $$ tag. Or an 1100 Sport.
Oh well.
Nick.

I like the round barrel Guzzies , but having said that there is a 1000cc Daytona for sale locally ....Id love to own that but TBH it probly would not get ridden , Im lucky in that my Mrs ( oh yeah , after 38 years together me and Di got married last month ....ho hum ) um ... yeah she dont mind bikes parked inside as long as they are cool and dont leak anything .....but ...ah I gotta do some maintenance around the house and sheds and thats always $$$$$$.
Damn I really do need to have a look at my Paso master cylinders ....I really cant remember if they have a mirror mount .
Re the sticky cylinder , I usually bung a fair bit of grease on things before putting them together . I know I have done the clutch coz I had a bitch of a job bleeding it and re conning the M/C didnt help . I push the fluid up from the bleed nipple on the slave cyl. I think its the large bore clutch line that makes conventional bleeding hard work .
