Tire Size Question

Post by 88WhitePaso750 »

This is a little different question when compared to the usual "What tires will fit".

I would like to understand what exactly the numbers mean.

For Example 150/80 VB 16 (71V)

First off, I get the 150 width, 80 sidewall profile, V Rating and 16" rim, What I don't quite understand is the 71V. Can anyone shed some light on this often forgotten tire specification number?

normally it should be 150/80B16 71V.
80 is the height of the tire as percentage of its width.
A 150/80 should be 150mm wide and hence 120mm high.
71 is the weight index. 71 corresponds to 345kg max. load (with proper set tire pressure). Lower tire pressure will reduce max load. At speeds above speed index of the tire max load will decrease.
B stands for bias belted, R would mean radial.
