906 dies after sustained throttle

Post by arit »

Like its run out of gas, restarts soon after. Fuel filter tank vacuum lines all clear and clean and new pump. It is missing the proper Y connector with the jet to regulate fuel back to tank. Where can I get one from or can anyone recommend an alternative solution?

You dont need a jet in the return line , just make the return line about 2-3 feet long and the line itself will provide enough restriction . Sounds like most of the fuel is going back to the tank and not enough to the carb so your on the right track 🙂

The fuel pumps always runs, as soon as the ignition is on. The jet in the return line is a 120 Dell Orto main jet, as shown in the 906 parts catalog.
Does the engine stall when it's still at higher rpm or at idle? If it's the latter I'd also check the ignition system and the voltage at the coils.

It doesn't stall, it just runs out of gas if its been given a decent handful for a while or mway speed. You can ride it around at low speed under 100km/h without issue but once its up in the revs the float bowl seems to run out of gas but will restart after the pumps run a min or 2

Hi.
I replaced the Y piece in a 750 with a brass Y I found on flea bay. The jet I screwed into the feed line side of the Y, so it was firm and not floating around. The plastic Y fell to bits when I removed it. I guess after 30 odd years it was ready to go!? If the bowl is running dry, it sounds like a sticky needle and seat, or a float that has a hole in it. It might pay to give the Weber a good clean and polish.
Cheers.

Can’t edit previous post. The jet went into the feed side to the Weber.
Cheers.

Do also check that the tank breather hose isn't clogged. There are topics on the forum describing fuelling issues which solved themselves once the gas cap was opened.

+1 on tank vent.Charging system could also be a cause of such behaviour if the fuel system checks out as well as other electrical issues. :fart: :drunk: :truck:
